Visitation Ministry

Our Mission - to reaffirm Christ's continued presence in the lives of members who are home-bound or residing in assisted living, rehabilitation or skilled nursing facilities; and to reaffirm their continued presence in the Unity Church family.

To accomplish this we: Build a caring relationship through visitation, mail and phone calls; pray with them and for them; and relay their concerns to the pastor.

Through the years our Visitation Ministry team has grown and shrunk to our current active membership of 15 people.  We are currently caring for over 25 people.  We try to visit each person at least once a month.  In many cases a friendship has developed and more frequent visits are made.

We currently have one member, who due to her limited mobility cannot go on visitations.  She makes monthly telephone calls to all of those able to communicate over the telephone.  She also calls all of our members to remind us of our monthly meetings.  At our monthly meetings we exchange information about those we visit and ideas about how to enrich our visitations.

Two other members oversee the sending of in excess of 200 cards a year.  One of these members is our entire craft department, soon to be expanded, and creates beautiful mementos that we leave with those we visit.

In the past few months we have left pasta Angels and clothespin crosses and crystal crosses with our shut-in church family.  Currently, about 10 people diligently perform the visitations.  At least twice a year we take flowers to these same people.

After relating all that we do, it is only fair to tell what we get out of this.  In most cases, I think that we come away from our visits being more uplifted ourselves than those we visited.  If we can give them a few minutes of cheer and happiness, it far overshadows any effort that we may have put forth.
